Harry and His Mother: What's the Deal There?

Postby Lizzy Bennet » Wednesday 25 June 2003 1:23:05pm

I could have sworn we were going to learn more about Lily Evans Potter in book 5, but that could have just been a false rumour, as the very nature of rumours is that they generally *aren't* true. :D

I do remember reading somewhere that it's very important that Harry has his mother's green eyes. Why? What's the connection there? What's the deal with green eyes, particularly having his mother's eyes? It's been mentioned more than once in the books that Harry looks just like his father . . . except for his eyes, because he has Lily's eyes. I don't think it would be mentioned a few times without it meaning something.

I can't remember if we have a thread about repeated themes or things (such as the number "12" or cats, etc.), but if we do, please post the link here, as that's a related thread, I think. Anyway, Lily died for Harry and what kind of protection did that give Harry? How does it tie in to the prophecy or does it add to it? Why didn't Voldemort want to kill Lily, as he told her to get out the way, finally killing her to get at Harry? Somewhere else I read that it was very important that Lily's wand was good for charm-work . . . why? Did she put a charm on Harry?

Anyone have any ideas? :???: Do share!

About lilys eyes being quoted to turn up, I read that too so all I can say its got to be speculation, I mean with what I read, some of which were quotes of what JKR actually said aparently that we was ment to see aragog, and that there was a number of important things in the second book to be an significants in this book none of which in my veiw turned up in this book in the slightist.

Anyway to the point in hand, I think the secrets with Lily we come to play in the next book her eyes and there importance will be included as well as her being good at charms as I believe the next book to be centre around his parents and the secrets of death. With Werebanes comment of the next book being called " Harry Potter and the Green Flame Torch" I read that too, and if this is true then the eye thing sounds to me like a good chance in coming up, but saying that I aint taking anything to heart no more, the amount of things I read that were ment to turn up or happen in this book was uncountable, so any speculation I read from now on will be taken with a pinch of salt.

About Lily, truly we did not learned that much about her in OotP, apart from her family name (although that might have been revealed already in a previous book, no ?) and some more insights about her relationship with James.

As for the eyes, certainly there is nothing exceptional to have his / her mother's eyes, by muggle standards anyway  But in the case of Harry, future books will tell !

Lily's wand was swishy and excellent for charm-work. I have heard from more than one person an idea of why this may be important. Several of my friends have speculated that perhaps Lily performed a Switching Spell on James and Remus, so that Remus Lupin has been dead for the past 16 years, and James is still living in Remus' body, with no body of his own to return to. To me, it sounds possible, if nothing else...

One thing im sure of is, James is dead!! Rowling says so herself.. that nothing will bring back his parents. And another thing..in the next book, it'll probably focus on the past more. and if u guys have read some of her interviews. she did said that the eyes and the wand's of Lily's will be very important and that it'll eventually explain many things.... so now how long it's gonna be for the 6th book? Anymore prediction on deaths? who gonna die next?those r what i wanna know.. ^^ Are we gonna see Sirius's ghost again? Since Harry sees his parents everytime he's in danger..Slight chance Sirius will be there too..... Hope the last of maurader, Lupin don't die.. for he is the last in the group.. dont count that traitor..

That's a good idea, but I don't think JKR will write that as she seems to be a responsible writer.

If she wrote that James had been switched and Harry could get his father back, it would mislead younger readers who have lost parents into thinking that they can get them back.

She doesnt seem like that kind of writer to me.

I ahve heard both that harry's eye's being just like his mother's and her wand being very good for charms were going to be of great importance further along in the series!!! I do wonder what this can mean though...

It does seem likely that if there is going to be a HP and the Green Flame Torch that it will connect in with that, but who really knows...

Maybe the want had something to do with her job... Maybe Lily was creating new charms or something??? Because the fact that James wand was good for Transfig has already come into play... :-?

Ahh so many confusing, rumors and facts mixing together.. I think i'll stop reading rumors now... I did expected many things from the 5th book to be explained, but then again it might just be rumors like lizzy said. :-?

There was never Harry Potter and the Green Flame Torch patented. If you read the from page, it says that Harry Potter and the Alchemist's Cell, Harry Potter and the Chariots of Light and Harry Potter and the Pyramids of Furmat were all patented for 6-7, give JK a choice.

Well, I am certainly no expert, but, as per usual, I'm going to tell you all what I'm thinking anyways!!! hehehe!

I've heard of the Alchemist's Cell, and the Pyramids and the Green Flame Torch, but never the Chariots one...???

But them, once again, doesnt' mean that I'm right! ;)
