I'm hoping that Harry will live, and become an Auror. But yes, the books are devoted to each yr at Hogwarts, to it would ahve to be in an epilouge, you know, Harry went on to pass his three yrs of Auror training, and become an excellent Auror, Ron did this, and Hermoine did that, etc etc... I'm pretty sure that JK has said that she won''t be writing anymore about Harry after his 7th yr at Hogwarts, so that's about all we can hope for! :(

JKR's latest "official" statement on more books is this...

At the moment, she only plans on writing the 7 Hogwarts books, and then stop. However, she will not rule out writing more if she ever develops "a burning desire" to do so. I don't think she will write more than the 7, though.

And the original point of this thread wasn't to debate whether Harry would become an Auror, really, since we probably will never find out for sure. Like somebody up there said, he pretty much already is one anyway! My original point was simply to wonder if McGonagall would be helping Harry in his training to become an Auror...

Well, presumable, she woudl also have meant for bringing up his OWL grades, but he didnt' go looking for her help then... *which he was a bit bummed about just before the exams started :( *

I think that she would be quite glad to give Harry extra help if he went seaking it out :D , but I cant' see her chasing him up to do it... it's his life after all!!! ;)

yeah i think that would be great, too! i don't know if I want another real Harry Potter book, it just wouldn't be the same if they were'tn at hogwarts, but a book like that would be good.

Or maybe she could write Hogwarts: a history. I'd really like to read that one!

I do hope for Harry his grade in potions is high enough to continue in NEWT levels, otherwise, an auror-career is out the question I think.

But I really wonder... even if he has results good enough to take Potions at the NEWT levels, would he? At the end of Book 5, he hates Snape more than ever (unreasonably, I might add)... and Snape certainly seems to hate him more because of the pensieve incident... would Snape really accept Harry as his student? And would Harry want to?

Just something to think about... because it seems like Harry's going to be caught in a dilemma... to go through with his ambition to be an auror and suffer 2 more years under Snape, or drop potions and probably not qualify to be an auror...

Still, maybe because he scores too well at DADA, they might relent the rules, and let Harry join without Potions at NEWT levels? After all, he is the famous Harry Potter. =P

I'm really eager to see how JKR is going to handle this situation. Maybe, Snape will finaly get his place as DADA-teacher, which means we, I mean Hogwarts : ), would get a new potions teacher. And that new teacher wouldn't have such a grudge against Harry. That'd be a reason for Harry to still continue in Potions.

Another thing, when do Harry and the other 6thyears-to be have to inform the school what subjects they are going to take. During the holiday after they've gotten their OWL results, or not untill they're back at school in September?

NEWT Potions

Postby highsorcerer » Monday 30 June 2003 10:43:18pm

I suspect a few things will happen with Harry and Potions.

A) Dumbledore might crack down on Professor Snape for stopping Occulmency lessons. It was a breach of what Dumbledore wanted, and he might come down on both Harry and Snape to put their differences aside for the greater good, like he did with Snape and Sirius in book 4.

B) Harry will probably have fewer subjects now (probably no more divination and astronomy), and might put full efforts into potions. Since he hates Snape more than ever, he might just do it to spite him.

C) McGonagall has promised Harry he'll become an Auror if she has to coach him nightly. So if it's potions he's weak at, then she'll teach him herself. She may be strict, but she's fair, unlike Professor Snape.

hard work and dedication! its been done before...not in the HP books per say, but in real life I'm sure it has! i'm not sure how i feel about Harry training to become an auror, though...i mean, an auror was just sort of what he thought he might do, he hasn't really explored many other careers. i'd like to see him become and auror,. but it might be better to look at some others too, keep his options open :)

Working for the ministry is another career.
I wonder where the MoM gets all the wizards working for them from. I mean, there aren't that many students at Hogwarts, and not everyone of them is going to work for the ministry. So how come they've got so many wizards and witches?
Maybe because they live longer than ordinary people?
