Does anybody know what the difference is? I was just looking at amazon, but they don't say any difference, just the picture on the front is different. any body read one or the other or both?

i've read from both and i think that its just the cover that it is different.
i think it's just for the adults who'd rather have a more mature looking book on their shelves!

The cover is the only difference...although the adult edition looks cool, but i still bought the children edition to match my collection :grin:

I heard that the reason for adult editions in the begininning was that adult would be embarassed to be seen reading a children's book so the adult covers aren't so noticable and recognizable. :lol:

Couldn't the adults just remove the dust jacket from the children's book? Or do the British editions not have dust jackets?

there *could* be an Australian version, which begins:

" It was a bonza day in 134 Chogammoga Drive and Harry and his mates were drinking Foster's round the Barbie.... "

Also an australian version would have to take into account serious differeces- for example the whole thing would have to be set on Azkaban. Maybe a FUTURE Harry Potter were all the prisoners that were sent to Azkaban have settled there and had children etc who now feel they are an authority on everything. *coughs*

Maybe Rolf Harris (same surname) could play Dumbledore!!!

The differences are:

They have different dust jackets.
The childrens book has a copy of the dust jacket underneath (at least in previous versions, not sure for OotP)
The adult book is black all over with merely the title and author on the spine.

The texts are exactly the same.

I got the adult edition because it's the first one I bought, the rest I borrowed from a friend.

I'm quite annoyed about the fact my dust jacket hase a beautiful painting on it, but it moves oll the time and it so uncomfortable to read the book that way...
but if you remove the dust jacket there is no picture!!! nothing!!! plain and ugley!!! couldend they just print the painting on the book itself too??? (american adition)

I don't suppose I've got a special edition, it's the British first edition(I think), but my copy's cover has the same printing as the dust-jacket. The cool phoenix with flames.

gecko descibes the childrens edition in britain and bludy mery the adult edition in britain once the dust covers are removed. The adult edition is black so embarrassed people can remove the jacket and hide it amongst their grown-up books

no ... I have the american one... (it's written on the book: "printed in U.S.A" "firt american edition..." and its the blue cover with hary holding a wand...) :jump:

I can't comment on the American editions as I've never seen one. I've also not heard of that cover.

( I love the painting by mary grandpre') you must have sean them some place... I didn't get it: why did they publish an Aerican edition if the cover is the onley diffrence??? isn't the American soppose to be in a lighter language???
