What if Gyffindor had more lessons with Ravenclaw?

What would have happened if The Sorting Hat had insisted on sorting Harry into Slytherin? Or what if Harry had become friends with Draco Malfoy instead of Ron during their first journey on the Hogwarts Express? Wander into alternative Harry Potter universes here.

What if Gyffindor had more lessons with Ravenclaw?

Postby Hermy » Thursday 21 August 2003 3:11:36pm

We don't know much about Ravenclaw as Harry never seems to have any lessons with them. Do you think this will change in later books? Would having lessons with "brainy Ravenclaws" affect Hermione in any way? How would Harry's potion lessons change if they were with Ravenclaw (of Hufflepuff) rather than Slytherin?

What do you reckon?

Harry would most certainly have better potions lessons, of course they would still suck because it's with snape, but not as much. Harry would also have more friends from Raveclaw (obviously, hehe) Like with Hufflepuff how they met Justin and such. *sorry accioniffler, spoiler here. -zledm007* I thnk that Hermione would probably still be the smartest student, but it wouldn't be as obvious as with slytherins and hufflepuff. She was nearly sorted into ravenclaw, would that bother her to have classes with them.

And something that bothers me... why doesnt JK talk about Ravenclaw more? I thikn she should! but thats neither her nor there, lol

Hermione would still be the smartest student but it would be less evident, she would obviously have to work harder to stand out amongst Ravenclaw. It would be like some one who was supposed to be in a level 4 french class in a level 2...they stick out because they are so much ahead of everyone, but once they were put in level 3 or 4 they have to work a lot harder to stick out as smart because everyone is closer to their own french skill level...i am making any sense?

Potions would be as bad if they had it with Ravenclaw because Draco and CO. wouldn't be there to pester harry and co...

You make complete sense Meg.
I invisage Hermione working every second of the day in order to ensuer she is working above the rest of the Ravenclaws. Which probably wouldn't be good for her - so best she be in Gryffindor.

Hermione would probably be more srtict about things if this were the case. She would be so involved with school work that she'd be on a short fuse and probably would explode much easier. And with all this extra work, would she has time to have adventures with Ron and Harry. And would they even like her as much assuming that she would be so much busier, more high strung, and probably moodier?

I'm sure Harry would do just as poorly because he would get distracted. *cough* making googly eyes at Cho *cough* Must be getting a cold. Anyways, it would probably be more evident that some of the Gryffindors are, less than perfect when it comes to potions.

Well they have potions with sytherins and Snape is head of Slytherin, they have herbology with the hufflepuffs and Sprout is head of Hufflepuff so why dont they have the lesson that the head of Ravenclaw teaches with the Ravenclaws? On the other hand that would give away who the head of Ravenclaw is and JK doesnt seem to want to give that away.

Just on Hermione's intelligence: I think she's more of a hard worker than smart. She spends too much time reading. Part of being smart is having her abilities without so much work.

I always thought Flitwick was head of Ravenclaw but it doesnt actually say in the books, people just seem to think so.

You all thought Flitwick was head of Ravenclaw? That's weird, I never thought that. I never thought that Flitwick had the disposition of a Ravenclaw. I guess I never put much thought into it though. I assumed that since ravenclaw wasnt mentioned that much, so neither was their head. The couple times that it crossed my mind I pictured professor sinistra, I dont know why though? :???:

Ive actually thought of prof sinistra for ravenclaw too, but for some reason I think Flitwick seems more likely.

JKR said in an interview you can read here: http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/quick ... noble.html :
Who is the head of Ravenclaw? Professor Sinistra perhaps? No, the head of Ravenclaw is good old Professor Flitwick!

I'm really glad Flitwick is our head of house, because he's like the teacher I'd want to have! And he drinks the cutest drink: 'cherry syrup and soda with ice and an umbrella' ! :) The umbrella does it !
