When you create a new topic you chose the title and first post, down the bottom of the grey box are three options, normal, sticky and announcement. You chose which one from there.

If you are a mod of a forum and wish to make a non-sticky topic sticky then you edit the first post and check the sticky box.

I also have read 1984, synonymous now with Room 101 and Big Brother!

Good luck with the topic, hopefully it'll prove very useful.

here's an idea from the new 'head of the english department' Maybe somebody already posted this; I haven't really read through this thread completely yet.

Wouldn't it be a lot easier if we created separate threads for each subject? Then we wouldn't have to search through hundreds of stuff that's completely irrelevant to the topics we're helping with . . .

Well Hermione, I think that would be a good idea, but so far we have no customers  I think we can look into it once business picks up though

Personally I'd just ask one of the Beauxbatons lot...you can find them in the Great Hall.

What about a technology department? I'm a computer science major at my university and I've done lots of programming. Plus I know lots of other computer stuff.

Well, I'm not a teacher but;

The sun shines on the moons surface and the reflected light is what we see on Earth. If nothing blocks it you get a full moon. However, occasionally the position of the Earth blocks relative to the sun blocks some of the light and you get partial moons. The 'new' moon is where the sun and the moon are both on the same side of the Earth (the light is reflected of the face we cannot see).

The phases are:

new moon
crescent waxing (or waxing crescent)
first quarter
waxing gibbous (I think..it has been a few years!)
full moon
waning gibbous
last quarter
crescent waning (or waning crescent)

they take about 29 and a half days to go, so just under every 2 and 3/4 years you get two full moons in one month, the second of which is called a blue moon, hence the phrase, "once on a blue moon"!!! :D
