I can never choose between Sam and Frodo. And Elijah Wood and Sean Astin play them with atmost perfection!! I love them all--Frodo, Sam, Sean and Elijah.

'Specially Elijah...ehehe! :D

I LOVE Sam Wise! He's so loyal to Frodo..and Gandalf my other favorite. Who can help but love the firework-loving wizard? Oh, and my favorite scene is when Gandalf finds Sam under the window and Sam says "I ain't been dropping no eaves, sir, honost!"

*giggles* So cute!! :D

Dearest Samwise...:D I love him too. And I love the fireworks part, with the little hobbit children, on the movie!!!

Really Cokey--who COULD resist a fireworks-loving wizard!? Not I....

yeah.....ive read it atleast 3 times...but im not bothered about the cutting out stuff...im bothered about what they do to the characters like pippin.....who only drops a stone down a well in the book but in the movie he attracts the ringwraiths to weathertop, wakes the watcher in the water, eaves drops on elronds council, steals fireworks, steals farmer maggots crops, and knocks a skeleton down a well....pj makes him look like a right little trouble maker......but in the book almost nothing is his fault...aragorn and frodo and boromir do it......

its really quite ridiculous the amount of difference....i hadnt read the book for ages......quite surprising.....

I have to say I don't agree with you, hardly at all, Sonkem--

I have read the books as well (of course--they are my favourite books in the world) and I must say I think the movie is absolutely SPECTACULAR. Peter Jackson did it so well I was just blown away. The books are better, of course, but the movie is absolutely wonderful.

Even if they did take out some parts and expand others, that doesn't mean they were doing bad! Sure, Tom Bombadil is *wonderful* but I can think of much worse things he could have taken, and I know Jackson has a passion for the books that is unrelenting--he wouldn't take anything that he thinks would hurt the spirit they convey. Remember--the movie (this is only the first one, mind you) is already three hours long--Tom Bombadil and Old Man Willow would add another half an hour on.

Personally, I LOVE Pippin's, Merry's and Arwen's expanded parts, I thought they were a little neglected in the book and I'm glad they were shown in a brighter light, so to speak. Really--I loved Pippin's adorable comic-relief. It added a light-hearted laugh to the sincerity.

My ONLY complaint to the movie was that they cut out the part where Frodo dances on the tables at the Prancing Pony singing his 'Cow Jumped Over the Moon' song. I can easily see Elijah Wood doing this--it has got to be one of my favourite parts in the book, and it surely would have been one of my favourites in the movie!! :( Agh. I miss it, really I do!!

I do like the movie, but it was very different from the book. Arwen is going to be in TT, and I have no clue where. (At least that's what my sis says.)

no but my point is....

pippin is not a trouble maker in the book, he only tells bilbo's dissapearing act in the prancing poney and drops a stone down a well....

in the movie he steals fireworks (not part of the book and in my opinion spoiling gandalfs big firework display), steals farmer maggots crops (not part of the book), tells everyone frodo is a baggins (that is a really bad thing and im really dissapointed with pj for that), attracts the ringwraiths to weathertop (aragorn and frodo did that in the book), throws stones at the watcher in the water (boromir did that in the book) and drops a skeleton down a well....making him look like a right little trouble maker....if i were pippin id sue pj for that........its a total mess up of pippins character.....sure he does do a few things in the book but hes not the huge rascal/trouble maker and danger to frodo that pj portrays him as.....

anyway, im sure ill be saying similar stuff about hp when i reread the book.....*sighs* but rereading the book has kinda put me off the movie abit......

I like that he was portrayed as a little trouble maker, I think PJ did that so he could just be the comic releif in an overall serious movie. If Borimer and Frodo and Aragorn did those other things in the book like attracting the Ringwraiths then I can understand you being mad. But those character except MAYBE Frodo they are all pretty much supposed to be sirous characters and it just would be right for them to make you laugh. No, leave the little hobbit as the comic releif becouse hobbits dont really ever know whats going on in the world around them so Pippin is the trouble maker becouse he is courius about the world around him. Cant wait until December when TT comes out

hmm...the only reason he needs to mess up pippin and make him into to comic releif is cos hes removes all the books comic relief (tom bombadil etc)......cos the stuff that aragorn and boromir do is not funny.....

but anyway......i shall stop moaning about differences between the book and film, this is meant to be a character thread...so...yay!!!
