Postby TDM » Sunday 19 October 2003 3:47:13am

i actually rolled my car recently, and i was just wondering if anyone else has, because i can't remember what exactly happened, because i believe that i blacked out and that caused it. so if anyone could share their expeirience with me, i would appreciate it.

When I was 18 I had an accident on my way home from my girlfriends. It was very late (gone midnight) and I was tired as I'd been up since 5am that day. Whilst driving home along a narrow country road someone came round the corner very fast with their full-beam lights on. I swerved to avoid and caught the recently re-cut kerb, (you see in England the mud banks on country roads leech onto the road and so every so often the local council cuts the back leaving a foot high "mud-kerb". What happened next was a blur and I hit the oppisite kerb, the then the original kerb, the force caused the car (apparently according to the accident investigators as I couldn't remember) to go on two wheels roll completely over, back onto two wheels and then wedge itself into a ditch! When I had my senses back there was the airbag, deflated, in front of me and a smell of smoke, I panicked that the car could catch fire or worse and all the lights were smashed so I couldn't see and the ditch had enclosed all the doors so I had to crawl out through the boot and walk..shell-shocked to the nearest village whereby a nice man gave me a cup of tea and spoke to my parent on my behalf.

According to the accident investigators I shouldn't be alive...that revelation and the shock meant I barely spoke anything for a month.

A possible reason you can't remember anything is the human shock response which negates trauma down to a copable level...if it didn't do you think women would ever have a second child?

that's scary stuff, i'm assuming you're all right dragon master?

that sounds pretty bad gwared, you're lucky you didn't have any serious injuries and were able to walk to a village.

yeah, i'm fine. wow, gwared, that's scary. they were saying that the ditch i flipped into was the right shape and everything. had it been different, i could've died. but no windows broke in the car or anything. nothing's really wrong with the car b/c the ditch was the perfect shape. it didn't really freak me out at all, though, because i'm pretty sure that i blacked out.

the odd part was that the airbag didn't go off, and none of the windows broke at all. the guys in my class just pushed it over, and my dad and i towed it home.

Well this has definitely put me off learning to drive now  My dad has never had any accidents, he is such a cautious driver, he does 50 on a motorway
