Fractals

I have just downloaded a programme to create fractal images and would like to share some of them with you - they totally fascinate me :o

Cool stuff!! I didn't know thats what they were called. Fractal.

U know what they all looked like? Science!!! :o Like those super cool snap shots of cells or structures of crystals, or smth like that.

And one of them looked like a book cover.

But all are very pretty :D How did u create them (i know u said u had a program, what does the program do?)

Yes, it's so interesting that a graphical representation of a formula can look like a cell or other natural forms. Some of them also look like folk ornaments.
Well what the programme does is drawing the pictures acording to the formula. You can choose magnification, coordinates of the image centre, colour scheme, filters, etc.

These are picks of the formulas?? this sounds familiar. I must have heard of it some where. Oh wow, so u put the formula in and specify couple of parameters and voile! cule!

Nice ones Broccoli. I'm always amazed at how such beautiful and complex structures can be created by such small formulae - the wonders of mathematics and nature. If you like, you can check out some of my own fractals and fractal movies at the oldest surviving part of another site of mine.

Those are great, Paul!

There are actually a lot of programmes that draw such things, I found mine on www.download.com.

Just a trivial supplement.
Fractals usually have a base motif (The general shape you see when you first look at them for example a spiral). When you magnify part of the fractal you will see the same base motif repeat itself along the edge of the larger shape and so on and so forth. You can magnify the fractal as much as you want and you will always find the same base motif. Try magnifying the fractal with the program and you will see what I'm talking about.

By the way, those are very impressive fractals, Brocolli and thanks for the programme tip.

Until the numbers become too large for the computer to handle and then the image goes to pot!

True.
But that's a limitation of your computer. Theoretically you could go on forever.
