Exam tension

Postby Liquid Ice » Monday 17 November 2003 9:31:29am

This isnt v. easy to explain so Ill start at the start. Im 13 and Im in year 9. GCSEs are usually taken in y11 (age 15) but as my mums french Im taking the exam this year to save sitting around in boring french lessons for 2 more years. Even though the real exam isnt for another 6 months or so, the mock exam is in about 2 weeks and I cant help being worried about it because even though everyone says I probably better at french than the y11s its still unerving to take an exam with over 100 people who are all 2 years older than you. I just get this horrid sick feeling whenever I think about it, I wondered if anyone had ever been in a simalar situation?

I was a long long time ago...I was taking exam to get into higher math class.

Well, all I can say is that u have to try not to think about it....because it only makes it worse. :( At least thats what I tried to do....

erm...so you are having your french exam 2 yrs ahead of the rest...
Am I right to say that cos I don't quite understand what you're saying

If you feel like you can do it, then you don't have to worry about it.
You have what it takes to pass that paper and you know it, so relax for now and then panic later when you realised you have only 1 week left to revise for your paper  (the last part is a joke but that's what I'm facing now...2 papers in a week time and worse of it all, I haven't started my revision yet :o )

Well I tried to comfort Liquid ice by telling her exactly what was in the exam, didn't seem to help! Basically to explain to choki, laura will be taking the exam with people 2 years older than herself and that intimidates her(because she is short  ) Still you can do it, I did 3 years ago with a whole bunch of people 2 years older than me, and I survived

lol, does it really matter how old the person is....

I mean, you will get far bigger age differences than that taking the same exam when you get to a university....what you should be doing for an exam is focussing on it and revising for it and blocking out everything else.....when you get in that exam room you most likely wont even know anyone but your exam paper exists for most of it.....never focuss on other people doing your exam, it'll only make you panic whatever age they are

i wouldn't have a problem with that anyway, in my school we quite often ended up with three different exams running...6th years along a wall doing one of their subjects and 5th years doing a higher subject and then standard grade (4th years) doing a subject....its usually the same set up in uni with exams from 1st, second and honours years all in one room....

Well it didn't matter to me about age difference but obviously it seems to matter to my sister.

lol, i dont know why she is worrying, chances are nobody will even notice she is younger, everybody is too busy worrying about the exam, last minute revising or checking they have done the same as everyone else.....

Hmmm, well I do think it will be VERY noticeable that she is younger.

Yes I cannot help but agree.

Sonkem: Its not ment to be a fuss its just that Ive never taken a big exam ever (even the though its only a mock its far more nerve wracking than taking an ordinary exam in my worst subject) and all the y11s have had loads of discussion about the GCSEs in subjects like PSHE which I certainly HAVNT had, and although you could argue that Im only taking one exam so I dont need it, languages exams are rather more complicated than any others, plus the fact you have to do an oral, which is far more likely to make me nervous than just sitting at an exam desk and doing a written paper. Still you dont have to post here as gower said.
