Competition with house points...?

Do you have any suggestions for this board or for the Broomsticks And Owls site?

Competition with house points...?

Postby AngelicS_89 » Friday 2 January 2004 5:27:11pm

I saw something like this on forum where my brother is admin.
What do you think about this organise a competition on which you can get house points, all what competitors have to do is to draw they favourite character from HP or something like that...

What do you think?

I like the drawing idea. At the moment the forum doesn't have an image uploading feature (except the avatar uploading feature which I've turned off due to copyright concerns) I but I believe that a general image uploading feature is one of the many extra features which should be coming soon in the forthcoming mega-upgrade of the board (phpBB 2.2).

At the moment there is the quiz where House Points can be won, but I've got long-term plans for other ways of winning House Points too. Some kind of fan-art competition as you've suggested could certanly be a possibilty once phpbb 2.2 has been released.

Would age be a problem? Say a 15 year old competing against a 20 year old who's taking graphic arts and design in college? *slightly worried*

Good point...if enough people were interested we could split things into age groups to give a fairer level of opposing competition. There could be a winner for each age group, and then there could maybe be an overall winner from all age groups together.

The problem is you can never tell for sure if everyone is honest regarding their age.

Hi all!

Although i just joined these boards a few weeks ago i really enjoy it here

Anyway i was wondering what the status is on the house competition, besides that it could be very cool, it's also a great way to get the members really involved.

I would be happy to help with this competition and i also have a few ideas of my own.

cheers,
Plep

I think thats a really cool idea, I love drawing so Id like to do it. Hmmmmm, except some people are only good at drawing cartoons, some people cant draw cartoons and can only do real life kind of drawings, if we had both types mixed it would have to be a very 'impartial' judge cos judging the best when the 2 types are mixed wouldnt be easy.
I really like the idea though.

Lol, I would be happy to judge any HP based art as I cannot draw HP fanart at all, and I can be impartial, I love all art, if you got chance to look in my computer you'd see that i save and drool over a very wide range of artistic styles.....and I also don't discriminate against people who have less experience...hehehe....sometimes the most special pieces of art can be drawn by total beginners....

Yeah an art competition is a really good idea, but maybe we can do a lot more!

I read somewhere that someone found out a way to play quidditch, so we could use that, but we could also do a weekly quiz, and what about an online chess competition?

I also think that an competion website would be very nice, with the up to date scores of each house and a schedule with matches/quizzes etc.

Wow, i'm getting excited , anyway as i said i would be willing to help with this (i have some experience with making websites, so maybe i could do something like that...).

In the medium-to-long term, your ideas are very close to what I've got in mind, plep. There's a lot of programming that will be required though for the Quidditch game I have planned, and possibly cost to buy software for the chess if a free version isn't legally available, so things won't be immediate but yes, there are such plans floating around my mind. If you've got programming experience that could help, we could certainly discuss things. Personally PHP is my preferred language for general interactive programming use, although it's not great for games.

That sounds great! Unfortunately my program experience doesn't go further than a bit of HTML and Java, but i'm willing to learn :-).

I'll go and see if there a program around we could use for the chess games.

I'll also put some things on paper (some of my ideas) and PM you asap. I really think this would be a great addition to this forum!
