Green Vs Scarlet

Postby Herminny » Wednesday 21 January 2004 3:46:42am

This is something I have been trying to figure out for like a year.

Harry's eyes (and lillies for that sake) are green Vs Voldys eyes being scarlet.

Ron is constantly cloted in maroon (a reddy coulor) while Harrys clothes are ofthen green. Does this mean there is some sort of trait that Ron and Voldy share.

And then you think of the school houses. Gryffindor is scarlet while slytherin is green. We are told Gryfindor are the brave and slytherin is the cunning.

But do the meanings for those colours apply the same as with Harry etc.

Once you start looking for the different colours you see them everywhere, in the first books Fudge was often seen wearing green. McGonnagall always wears green too.

I have a feeling that the use of coulours is probably important but I just don't fully understand the meanings so if anyone has any ideas.

You know you just might have something there...

If i am not mistaken, Ron often says how he hates maroon...

Could this be Ron denying his trait???

Honestly I see the rational of this all and it makes sense...but I personally don't really like it...I would be scared if Ron was evil and since he is my favorite I might stop reading (well not really, but it would make me very angry)

huh... well, the only trait Voldy has that's red is his eyes (that I can remember)... everything else red seems to be related to Gryffindor... And the only trait Harry has that are green are his eyes... everything else green seems to be related to Slytherin. Harry wearing green is always tied in to his eye color (Mrs. Weasley gets him green dress robes because they bring out the color in his eyes). I would think that the red ties to Ron have more to do with Gryffindor than Slytherin. McGonagall's green is always referring to green tartan, and in Scottish clans, each house has their own tartan pattern. So, her clan could be rooted in Slytherin, but she's not (a theme that runs through the HP books is being good when your family is not, or vice versa)...

An example please...

I know that, for instance, Barty Crouch Jr. was a DE while his father was in the good side... but don't we hear Sirius (or someone else) saying that Mr Crouch Sr. wanted so bad to have killed all DE that he became arrogant and started to give killing powers to the Aurors?
Who, from the bad gays, had a good family?

oh don't make me think today!!! :-(

okay... I was referring to the Crouches... Like Sirius said, the world isn't split up into good guys and death eaters... when i say "bad guys" i mean death eaters (unless i specify otherwise)... no, Crouch, SR was not a nice fella, but he wasn't a death eater...

ummm... we don't know what Tom Riddle's family was like... Percy is part of the Weasley family, but I don't classify him as good...
