Snape the Vampire

Postby Athena Appleton » Tuesday 27 January 2004 7:31:07pm

As I've mentioned before, I read the "Guide to the Mysteries of HP" and one of their theories is that Snape is part vampire...
He's always up and walking around at night (watch out students!), he's got sallow skin (I forget, I think book 5 mentions someone having pale skin "like a vampire"), he lives down in the dungeons, on a nice day he tells Harry, Ron, and Hermione to go outside (why's he inside???)... and is anyone else curious about just WHO would be interested in eating the blood-flavored lollipops? Since we know there's a potion to help werewolves, could there be a similar potion to help vampires live "normal" lives?
Whatcha think?

while all those things point to snape being a vampire, he is seen outside in book one during the quidditch match. so if we're to go by the stereotypcial vision of a vampire then he should have burnt to a crisp by now!

Yeah, I thought of that, too... but what if there IS a potion to help him deal with day-to-day life (pardon the pun)?

isn't it rather obvious that snape has vampire characteristics. JK doesn't tend to do the obvious.
Also (ho this is just my opinion) even if he could drink a potion to prevent him burning up in sunlight etc. I'm not sure you'd be able to get rid of the necessity for him to drink blood. Kind of like we have sun block so we don't burn in the sun, but we still have to eat to survive.

I guess its possible he is part vampire- however they occur. but its sort of too obvious.

Yeah, makes sense... but how often to we really see what Snape eats?
As far as obvious goes, I didn't catch on to all the clues pointing in that direction until it was all laid out for me!
One I forgot to mention... after Snape subs for the DADA class and assigns them an essay on werewolves (which we now know he does to get someone to realize what Lupin is), Lupin assigns the class an essay on vampires...

Well, vampires and sunlight differ depending on which author describes the mythos. Bram Stoker's Dracula could function in sunlight, though it robbed him of his powers. Anne Rice's vampires, however, are destroyed by sunlight.

from what i remember all vampires need to drink blood though. Snape can't exactly go round biting students, nor does it seem likely that a potion could replace blood. if Snape was a vampire he'd have to get blood from somewhere.

How do you know he doesnt? Remember, in book 3 we learn that there are special foods made for vampires (Ron and Hermione decide not to buy Harry blood candy... I just think there's too many vampire references for someone not to be revealed as a vampire later on...

According to some old myths, vampires don't have to necesserily drink blood, they feed on anything 'living' - kind of like Dementors who suck all the happiness out of you... Some vampires even used to eat people (okay, that would be too much, Snape eating his students...), but I don't remember where I've read that.

as far as my memory goes there´s nothing to prevent Snape bieng a VAmpire, or, at least, part vampire, but you´d think that somebody would have mentioned it at some point... Like when the ministry was criticizing DD, they would have mentioned it.

Maybe Snape stole some blood in the bloodbanks? You know the one which people donate their blood and it doesn't constitute sucking blood out from a living person :o too much vampire comedies for me

plausible - - - yes
probable - - - no
i mean sure, you can make an argument, and then pretty effectivly argue any rebutal, but, if you think about it, the ministry would have a record of it, and when, in book 4, rita skeeter was bashing hagrid and lupin, she would have thrown that in there, because i think it would be fairly accessible knowledge, kinda like criminal records

just commenting another possiblilty:

no one would nessesarily know if Snape drank thier blood, because, given that he is the potions master, he could give people blood replenishing potions after sucking thier blood...

Personaly I don´t believe that Snape is a vampire but it is a interesting theory.

well not necassarily, there are plenty of memory charms that could be put on someone, and we all know that snape is certainly capable of doing it. but still i think that it wouldnt really work if sdnape was a vampire.
