Anyone have any theories about who the ten-year-old kid is that BigD and his gang beat up? By book 6, he'll be 11 (old enough to attend Hogwarts). Anyone wanna say it's a coincidence that Ms. Rowling used Evans for Mark's last name AND Lily's maiden name?

ooh, you could be right there might be something there, i haven't read OOTP in ages as my mum is still reading it, (taken her since august) jeesh! i'm gonna have to buy myself a copy and read again! but i do remember mark evans! Every character JK has mentioned has gotten deeper in the story so maybe there could be some development still to come for this mark evans!

I just don't see how Mark Evans can possibly NOT be a huge part of the septology... just don't have any theories on his significance...

I'm sure he will... haven't you noticed that Harry (and Hermione and occasionally Ron) have the oddest talent for remembering names and faces?

I mean DD said that pertunia etc. was the only family he has.

Does this mean DD lied?

Although maybe the safety that the dursleysgive harry would not be as strong as if he went and lived with the Evans.

Dumbledore said Petunia was Lily's only surviving blood relative... If the blood had to be from the exact blood line, then this Evans could be a cousin or something. Or, as it's speculated, Lily and Petunia could be adopted... Like I said, I just don't see how it's possible that Mark Evans could not be related to Harry in some way.

Everybody keep in mind, too, that Dumbledore feels that "generally truth is preferable to lies." J.K. Rowling herself has said that Dumbledore and Hermione are the characters she uses to present the truth without it seeming unbelievable. Dumbledore knows everything just because of who he is, and if Hermione says anything that you normally would say "How would she know that," it's meant to be assumed that she read it in a book somewhere. You can pretty much be sure that if Dumbledore says it, it's true. If he doesn't want to tell the truth, he just says that he can't tell us at this time.

perhaps if this mark evans character does start hogwarts in book 6 something will happen that will bring mark and harry together, like in OoTP harry and luna, dumbledore would tell him more of his past, who's to say we have heard everything yet? we only have the gist of it from the prophecy there could be more elements to still come in the story, and like athena said dumbledore prefers truth over lies, has decided it's not time for harry to know yet!
you don't know. I'm still really curious about harry and dumbledores relationship, because dd quoted in the 5th book that it would be dangerous if voldemort discovered that they had in fact more than a teacher/pupil relationship. It was something along those lines, i don't have my copy of OoTP. It was when they instructed harry to take those occulemency lessons!

Have you ever thought that, as Lilly's eyes were green (meaning evil, like the Avada Kedavra, Slytherin's colour, ...) Mark may not be a good little boy? Just a thought, though!

Well mark could be related to harry, but well the reason that he was placed with the dursley's was cause they were blood relations. The reason that he may not have been placed in a family with this mark evans could be because he is not a blood relative ie a second cousin or something.
but i do agree that there probably is some greater significance to him.

I definately think there's something to those green eyes... and I definately think it's a good possibility that this Evans kid could be more Slytherinish than Gryffendor...

Well, personaly I doubt that Mark Evans will go to Hogwarts, because he would have done some magic when Dudley & co where bullying him...

But I`ll bet that the Evans surname is not a coincidence (as if with JKR anything is one !!)
