There has been no mention of a godmother for harry at all yet. however i think that most of us would assume that he has one.
I would have thought that mrs figg was an obvious choice, but we dont know how well the potters knew her before they were killed.
Who else do u reckon could be his godmother?

Does Harry need to have a god mother? If he does its a character we dont know, because Harry would have recognised her in his parents wedding foto...

Not necessarily.... we all assume that James and Lily graduated, got married immediately and had Harry immediately... If James and Lily were married for several years before having Harry, they could have met the godmother after the wedding but before Harry... or could have gotton closer to her in that time... My son's "godmother" (we don't really refer to her as that but she has the same relationship as one) is someone we didn't get close to until after we were married... she wasn't at our wedding.

yeah, I had thought of mcgonagall... and how appropriate that she turned out to be Harry's head of house (an easy way for her to keep an eye on him)

yeah, mcgonagall could be it, but we just don't know, it could be one of lily's friends from school, but he doesn't have to have one

all this is assuming, of course, that he even had a godmother...

I would have thought if it was McGonagall we'd have heard something by now....even just a passing comment at the times when Sirius is mentioned as the godfather.......shes a pretty main character afterall.....

Well i do think that harry probably did have a godmother, but like sonkem suggested they could have died when voldermort was around the first time. if that was the case then that would be why we wouldnt have heard of her yet. After all harry's been through so much already adding another death to the line of people that he has already lost would just be cruel

I would think that there are two places in book 3 where it would almost certainly have come up if he did have a godmother...
1. The teachers would have mentioned it in the Three Broomsticks when they're discussing Black and the night Voldywart tried to kill harry, OR
2. I think Sirius would have mentioned it himself sometime around when he asks Harry to stay with him in book 3.
So, I don't know. I still don't really think he had a godmother.

I think that if he has a godmother it wouldn't be McGonagall because I'm sure she would have said something or taken him in or someting. The reason he wasn't told about Sirius is because they thought that Harry would be horrified and because of the way he betrayed James it no longer counted.
So if he hasn't been told so far i think that they are dead or no longer able to take care of harry.
