Sirius getting into Hogwarts

Postby Liquid Ice » Thursday 4 March 2004 11:18:10pm

In book 3 sirius gets into Hogwarts, but I dont think we ever find out how he did it. You cant apperate inside hogwarts, and all the entrances to the grounds are gaurded by dementors, and hermione said 'the dementors would have seen him fly in' but in book 4, the fake moody says (when hes describing how he escaped from azkaban) 'The dementors are blind, they sensed one healthy, one dying entering, they sensed one healthy, one dying person leaving' If theyre blind and presuming they can only sense so far, then if sirius was high enough up in the air, then wouldnt he be able to get in?
Just an idea, what do you guys think?

I thought he used one of the secret passages. I'm sure he would know about all of them.

He got into Hogwarts via the Shrieking Shack in Hogsmeade...there is a tunnel to it that exits through the base of the Whomping willow and they use it when they find out about Peter Pettigrew and stuff....

Really? Is that an 'educated guess' or did I miss that in one of the books? It sounds likely anyway..

I agree with this it's most logical, and he entered in Hogwarts throughout some other secret tunnel,again...He knew all of them

I think he got into Hogwarts by way of the Shrieking Shack hidden entrance, the dog cover-up, or both. We know (he told us) that the dementors didn't notice him as a dog, so he could have just walked onto the grounds and right up to the school as a dog, somehow gotton inside as a dog, and hidden in a closet or room right inside the entrance (like the room Hermione and Harry hide in at the end of PoA, waiting for their earlier selves to walk by)... or he could have used the Shrieking Shack, he did know how to calm the Whomping Willow down, having used this entrance many many times before... or maybe he taught Crookshanks how to do it (I think Crookshanks does it when Ron is taken by Sirius-the-dog), and they could have a "planned time" to calm the Whomping Willow...

Crookshanks does know how to do it, I'm sure we see crookshanks do it...maybe when harry is trying to follow sirius down there.....

The whomping willow is inside the grounds of Hogwarts, that gets sirius past the dementors, he then only has to get inside the school.....but as crookshanks can get out surely he can get in in animal form.....not to mention he does know all secret passages though im sure in the book it gives a list of them and tells which ones are still usable to get into hogwarts and harry and co come up with the idea the one to the honeydukes cellar is the only passable one that takes you outside hogwarts grounds...the others had caved in or where guarded by the whomping willow...only Sirius can get past the whomping willow

Notice also that Harry sees Sirius in dog form with Crookshanks after dark in the grounds.....crookshanks was the one who got sirius the quidditch magazine so he could buy harry the broomsticks and crookshanks was the one who got sirius the passwords from neville....crookshanks also helped sirius out by attacking peter and scaring him out of the common room into hiding in Hagrid's hut....quite likely that Crookshanks found sirius a way into the castle once he got inside the grounds really dont you think.....

Crookshanks can get in and out of the Castle easily, so when they are in the Sheiking Shack crookshanks freezes the Willow and shoe Siruis how to get inside the castle

The castle building isn't well guarded - cats and owls can come and go as they please. It is the grounds that is protected, ie the walls surrounding the castle. Once Sirius has entered the school grounds via the shrieking shack-womping willow tunnel it would be easy to enter the castle from there.

Being one of the arauders he knows his way around the grounds like no-one else, therefore he did not need Crookshanks to show him how to get into the castle - he was doing it himself when he was at school.

It would also be easier to disable to womping wollow from the tunnel entrance (ie when entering Hogwarts from the tunnel) as they had to use a branch or something to do it from the other end.

I definately dont think that sirius would have any trouble getting into hogwarts, like has been said he's one of the marauders, he knew every little path and passage into the place. From the shrieking shack there would be no problem getting in and past the dementors, especially during dinner or something when everyone would be eating in the great hall

while I do think the best guess is that he used a secret passageway, I think there's a good chance (at least some of the time) that he just trotted onto the school grounds as a dog (he was able to escape Azkaban as a dog, because the dementors didn't sense the dog's emotions).
