Harry Potter in real life

Postby fierce » Wednesday 10 March 2004 10:56:37am

This is going to sound weird to some people... maybe everyone...!

I was just wondering if I'm the only one who sees Harry Potter characters in real life? I mean, not the actual characters (i'm not crazy - at least not that crazy), but people who look like the characters?

For example: When I used to catch the train to work, I would see a man that looked like Snape. Not the Snape out of the movie, but more like the Snape out of the book. He had greasy black hair & a hooked nose, and he always wore black suits and looked just a bit intimidating!

When I caught the bus to work one day with my cousin (who is a bit HP mad as well), the boy standing in front of us looked like Draco Malfoy from the back. I said this to my cousin, but also said that he probably wouldn't look like Draco from the front as well, but then he turned around and he did look like Draco!

Another day when I was catching the bus, I saw a boy running to the bus stop just as the bus pulled out that looked just like Neville Longbottom. It helped that it was the kind of thing you could imagine Neville doing...

So maybe it's just public transport messing with my mind...

But I also seem to pick up files at work with names from Harry Potter... There was a file a few months ago in the name of Snape, and there's been loads of blacks (obviously there would be), a couple of Potters, a Longbottom...

so maybe i'm just obsessed? does this happen to anyone else?

I do see a lot of "harry potters" on the street, and some young Rons, Molly, Percy - and I think that's normal. But Im even crazier - I saw this boy once - round glasses, green eyes and blue hair - and I called him blue harry potter. That's weird!!!

Well maybe it is a little obsessive, but as long as you don't start following them home  then your just a fan with a good imagination.

Or maybe you should be a casting director

I think its quite natural, when you consider the big variety of characters in HP :)

Oh yeah! My chemistry teacher reminds me of Snape (the way she acts, not appearances). And this guy I know had Snape-looking hair, but then he cut it. :( This girl in my English class reminds me of Hermione (she's really smart) and my Dad is kinda like Dumbledore. I have a few Ron-ish friends, and a really popular/athletic/smart guy at school reminds me of Oliver Wood.
But as for appearences, I don't know anyone (besides the hair guy) that looks like a character, except my English teacher who has Hermione-like hair... :-?

Ooh i saw the draco boy on the bus the other day, it was really freaky because he looks just like draco (tom felton). Only he's a bit older. and he's cute. Which is weird.

But yeah, i was on the bus with my sister, and this guy gets on about 10 mins after us, and there are no seats left (but he's a school guy anyway, and they have to stand up if people paying full fare haven't got a seat), and i said "look! it's draco!". And it was. hes cool.

I don't really see anyone who looks like HP characters, I just dream HP like all the time.

My evil english teacher Mr. Richardson reminds me of Snape. He's got the same pompous and I'm better than you attitude. I'm really scared of him too! :( He's such a jerk! Aghh! But today was the last day for Seniors so I never have to see him again! We all went nuts today: "I survived Richardson's class!" I'm going to kinko's to make t-shirts!!!

In general, I don't picture people in real life when I read the books... except for Fred and George Weasley... a guy in my youth group when I was in high school had red hair and he was the same kind of personality as F-n-G... Very funny, loved getting into trouble, loved making other people's lives harder, but you always forgave him of it because he was so charmingly annoying.

When I read the books, I immediately pictured Maggie Smith playing McGonagall before ever seeing the movie. I agree with what Rowling said about Daniel Radcliffe totally looking the part. As much as I do NOT think he's a great actor (though, I do think he's improving... I mean, how much can you hold him accountable for not being incredibly talented... he was virtually unknown and 11-years-old in P/SS), no one else will ever look the part as much as him, I think.

I kinda picture my sister when she was in about the sixth grade when I read about Hermione, or at least I did until I got so used to Emma Watson being Hermione... at that age, my sister had very thick, course light brown hair and she needed braces, because her upper teeth seemed very large...

In general, though, I picture actors (even if it's not the actors from the actual films) when I'm reading. When I read Lupin, I still see him as Ralph Fiennes, not David Thewlis. When I read Mundungus Fletcher, I see Rik Mayall (I think that's how it's spelled... he was King Herod in the most recent Jesus Christ Superstar)
