You know, there are a few red herrings that she throws in there to throw us off track... this could be one of them.
Yeah this could be one. I bet Mrs. Rowling is having a big evil laugh at our guesses.

Remember this

Postby Lone_Buck » Friday 9 April 2004 6:19:30am

All the speculation about whether or not Harry has other relatives. Remember that the Dursley's weren't only chosen because they were relatives, but also because they were muggles. Dumbledore didn't want Harry to know everything he did, cuz he didn't want harry to be big-headed, therefore, this Evans kid could be a cousin of an all-out wizarding family. But there also the fact that Fudge said there were no records of any magical folk in the magnolia crescent. I guess we can't be sure, there is a good argument either way.

One question do u think Mark will be good or bad?

she could put an interesting swing on it. If we are all thinking that he going to be a long lost relative and a big reunion what if he is like a draco, thats why DD didn't wan't him to go to them

Good point, Untouchable! Oh yeah... and welcome to BaO! :welcome:

I don't know about whether Mark will be good or bad... I could see it going either way.

There is no way this boy will not play a role. I don't know how, but he has to. Everything JKR writes somehow connects to the bigger story. Why else would she introduce Mark Evans to us in the same book as we learn Lily's maiden name. I don't believe JKR uses Red Hering clues.

She does... not usually something as big as this... I was referring to the Snape comment about Lily being a "mudblood" as a red herring, to get us all thinking she really is the child of two muggles, when possibly she's not...

Certainly don't think Mark Evans is a red herring

I definately think that the absolute closest kin they could have is first cousins... possibly even second or third cousins...

I think that Mark might be Harry's long lost cousin or something, cause I just do. Anyone else agree?

:welcome: Welcome to broomsticks and owls, dancin! heehee, Adam Brody is the coolest! If I were Summer, I would ditch the dad and keep him.

k, back to hp... I think almost all of us agree with you there, there's just no way that Mark could not have some kind of tie to Harry.

I have been thinking about what Fudge said at Harry's trial.

If a kid hasn't even been contacted yet about going to school would he show up as a wizard living in a given area at least as far as the ministry is concerned with people capable of preforming active or purposful magic.
If Mark Evans actually turns out to be a wizard OK but it's not like he has a wand or anything.
I don't think they keep track of under eleven year old accidental magic the same way they keep track of active students use of magic.

I don´t think that kids that haven´t been contacted are considered wizards as towards the law, otherwise a Magic Reversal Squad would appear every time a kid did accidental magic (like the Boa incident).

I think that Mark Evans comes from a muggle family (or a Muggle-Squib family) and therefore his parents don´t appear as wizards on the registry either.

you both could be right...

but I still think the ministry keeps very sloppy records, so I don't put a lot of trust in Fudge's knowledge that there aren't any wizards living in Harry's area anyway...

Jotomicron wrote:Have you ever thought that, as Lilly's eyes were green (meaning evil, like the Avada Kedavra, Slytherin's colour, ...) Mark may not be a good little boy? Just a thought, though!

Challenging thought, but if red is complementary colour to green  , then Voldie's eyes should be sort of good - but we all know they're evil! JKR always repeats they are merciless, pitiless, blah, blah, ... never warm, though red is generally a warm colour. 8-) --> well, green is mine, but red not, in any case not!!!

There are many theories about Lily being bad girl, but I doubt it. If she was bad, ahe wouldn't have been protecting Snape (scene by the lake :D ). But, maybe, she was protecting him just because they were both evil ... :???: Who knows? Anyway, her performance certanly wasn't a bad girl's performance. It sounded very innocent, even naive

But Mark has his own personality and I think it is also affected by his environment. Older guys beating him up ... it means nothing nice :x . We'll see ...

I still think the constant comments about Harry's and Lily's green eyes has less to do with the color and more to do with the fact that they are so similar. If the movie has a kid with really obvious blue eyes, and J.K. Rowling guides things in the movies that are really essential to the plot, then I don't think there's a story connecting Harry/Lily's eye color to Voldemort or Slytherin or anything like that...
