House Systems

Someone at my school thinks we should institute house systems. My question is pretty simple: do you think this could work in real life, for a day school?

House systems . . . like Hogwarts has Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff, and they all compete against each other . . .

Well it could have its advantages and disadvantages. An advantage would be the students could be with those who have similiarities. Though a disadvantage would be that students would be seperated, and there would be much less grouping and mixing. So I'm not sure...I could go both ways really.

our school used to have houses long before i started.

My mum was housed and she seems to think it was ok!

Not sure whether i'd like it too much though, what if you were put in a separate house to all of your friends?

I think it's better when you are surrounded by different people, not only by those who have the same qualities, like in HP.

I think it's a good idea!
With their right answers or interventions the students can make their house earn points and I think this is a really strong incentive for students to do their best. And if they get a bad mark in a test, this won't just be a problem of the student but the whole house will lose points. It could be a good form of competitivity between the students to win the House Cup at the end of the year.

But it's true that this would encourage friendship only among the students belonging to the same house and this isn't a positive thing...

Yeah, we wouldn't want the houses to be fighting to earn points.

ooh! i think that'd be fun. *goes off into fantasy dream* i wish my school was that cool... or that my 'rents would let me go to boarding school... alas, i can only wish. ah well... college in 2 years! yay!

I liked this idea a lot too when my classmate suggested it. I know some Universities have such house systems, but I just can't figure out why more high schools don't do it!

*sigh* i know... do you know which colleges do do it? I wanna go there...
i don't know why they don't have them in H.S.- i mean, think of how more focused the students would be, knowing their part of a house and they have a group of automatic friends and that they can earn for this house. that'd definitly be a boost for enthusiasm for school, therefore, prolyl affecting other areas of school in good ways, too. and then you'd never have to travel for away games for sports, half the time! b/c you'd just be playing a diff team of your school!
