I don't believe that she would reveal her theories for bluffing. Why would she think of them then. She (JK), I think, doesn't want us to know the theories because the pleasure of reading the books wouldn't be so good because we would know, for example in the 3rd book, that Sirius is actually good or that Ron's rat is actually Peter ...

I think she (JKR) enjoys reading theories (I would :razz:

), because she knows better than anyone what's happening next and can think "hm... this guy got very close" or "what?!"... Anyways, a theory does not spoil a story if it stays as "theory" and not as an affirmation (unless it is really convincing - I have not read such a theory so far.)
No writer wants to spoil his own book, but having people making theories is a compliment, because it shows the interest of the readers in his work.

3 reasons for Athena being JKR :-

1. she defends or opposes theories with such confidence that you inevitably end up supporting her view

2. she makes up theories at an astounded rate, a creative mind not unlike JKR

3. duh! i just wanted to add fuel to the fire and make the debate more lively!

now here's a plausible explanation that would satisfy both parties. JKR suffers from split-personality syndrome. one part of hers wants to write a masterpieces and so keeps all the theories secret. and the other part, living in that world for such a long time wants to divulge those very secrets. And ladies and gentlemen, voila! the name of the second personality is Athena Appleton! :-)
