Sorry for the double-post, first of all.
If there's going to be some kind of challenge, why don't we make it useful at least... I mean, what's the point in challenging someone to do something that doesn't benefit anyone really?
We could have a challenge to...
Visit a nursing home for an afternoon, talking to any patient who will talk to you. Seems like a waste of time, after all, who would want total strangers to visit them. But if you've ever done it, you know it's an incredibly rewarding experience. Those old people lots of times have nobody to just sit and talk to. Ask them about their childhoods, about their past, their marriages, their friends... People used to do this, and I think it's sad to think of the major chunk of history that is dying every day because younger people didn't initiate the story-telling.
Volunteer at a soup kitchen... Krum, you're so proud for having not eaten for a week... well, wouldn't that time and energy (and money) you saved not eating been better spent feeding someone who really needed it? Just my opinion, I guess I'm looking at it from a fasting point of view, like with church... you spend the energy and time and money you would normally spend on food on something else, whatever you're fasting for. But even if you aren't fasting, helping to feed the homeless will give you a great appreciation for the steak and mashed potatoes you're having for dinner that night.
that's all I got for now...
