harry potter on SNL

Postby Athena Appleton » Monday 3 May 2004 3:19:32am

hey, guys, if you either don't live in the US, or don't get Saturday Night Live, or you just missed it, look up a skit that was done last night. It was "the new harry potter movie" with Lindsay Lohen (the girl from The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday) playing Hermione. As long as you can handle some obvious poking-fun at Harry Potter and the HP movies, it'll be well worth the download to look up the skit online and see it.

I'm sure they will, they've been doing that a lot lately... also, the season's over next week, so reruns will really start up then. I'll keep an eye on it and tape it...

I would imagine it could be looked up on the internet somehow.... seems like pretty much everything can. I havent tried, though, since my computer wouldn't be able to handle it anyway.

 well... Lindsay Lohen playing Hermione in a miniskirt, low-cut top, with big boobies. it was hilarious.

No way... MadTV is like the poor man's version of SNL! Only good thing I've seen about MadTV is the OC sketch they had this weekend... I love the OC, but I was mad everytime the MadTV folks showed up...

But seriously, this summer, when the Lindsay Lohen one comes back on, watch it. Easily the best episode of the year (well, right up there with the Justin Timberlake one, even though I hate Timberlake, I loved the SNL he was on)... Between Harry Potter, Debbie Downer (the best sketch of the night, by just about all accounts) and the hyper little girls, it was hilarious.

Athena it's the younger generation who didn't get the benifit of our older wiser viewings.
They never knew SNL classic like we did with Eddie Murphy, Dan Akroyd and John Belushi.

In all fairness to the youngsters; SNL has gone down a bit over the years from the older version with the really big names. (Well they are really big names now) But I still agree that it is a cut above Mad TV although Mad TV is (ok) for the same type of show.

 I wasn't allowed to watch Saturday Night Live when Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, John Bilushi and all those fellas were on it, I was a toddler ... but I did watch "The Best of Saturday Night Live" religiously (it came on Nick at Nite when I was about ten years old) and it had all those guys, plus some Chris Farley, David Spade, Mike Myers before he got too big for his britches, Dana Carvey...

But nothing good has ever come out of MadTV... I mean, with SNL there's all these sketches and characters that you can mention and anyone will know what you're talkin about... with MadTV, it's kinda funny for that night, but there's nothing memorable about it. Even the regular "funny" characters are just gross, not funny.

seriously, MadTV is the poor man's version of SNL... take a mediocre SNL night and add a lot of toilet humor and overdone comedy, and you have MadTV.

Anyway, this particular skit was worth anyone watching who likes Harry Potter, like I said, just as long as hey can deal with the poking fun at the HP movies.

you're right. i would have loved SNL if i had watched it when all them famous ppl that are famous right now. i most likely would have lived 'In Living Color', too, but once again, not my generation. also, the reason i like MADtv is for it's characters, such as Stuart, Ms. Swan (not on anymore, but still funny on reruns), along with countless character's they are bringing in.

also, SNL had two major big points:

when it first came in 70's

AND

the early 90's

from what i've heard (and seen in recent episodes, because i do watch SNL occasionally), SNL is going down. also, (not to start up a flame war, but that is what i really don't want to do) about 3 months back, TV Guide listed a bunch of shows that should end, and a reason why. sadly to say (because it's worth a giggle every once in a while) SNL was on there, and the reason was Stephanie Weir (an actress on MADtv, as you might have guessed). but there were some other good shows on there, too, such as Friends, reason being time to leave before it starts to be bad, and Fraiser, which is also leaving this season.

anyway, not to slam upon anyone, but i just like MADtv better because i think it's funner

BTW, Athena, MADtv is just not a bunch of toilet humor. some of the recurring characters actually play out a kinda mini-series that usually ends up just...well...the only way to say it is in the style of MADtv. anyway, that's all i have to say, and i hope i haven't angered anyone.

 well, i still say that MadTV is wonderfully mediocre... it's a nice way to pass the time until SNL comes on at 10:30.
