hp special on abc

Postby Athena Appleton » Monday 10 May 2004 3:51:27am

Hey! A while back, I posted a notice in the Movies section about how Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone would be on ABC tonight. I just wanted to do a recap and let you guys know that the extra stuff they showed was awesome!

Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint hosted, and during commercial breaks, they discussed a lot of stuff, and ended with a 10-minute making-of featurette. Now I'm even more psyched and can hardly wait for June 4 (less than a month away!!!!) I was a little wary of this next movie, and I still am a little bit, but I noticed a few things that make me feel better.

1. the three main actors did not mention the so-called Harry/Hermione/Ron love triangle I had heard were there. They said there's some teenage love-hate tension between Ron and Hermione, but no mention of a possible relationship between Harry and Hermione was there. Which is good. Harry and Hermione never had romantic feelings for each other in the least.

2. Malfoy does not look as ugly as he does in the previews. Not that this is really important at all, since Rowling has even stated that she thinks a lot of people have the idea that Malfoy should have a romance with a decent girl because Tom Felton is cute. Well, he (Malfoy) isn't as cute as Tom Felton is. Anyway, he doesn't look completely retarded like he did in the previews.

3. I finally feel comfortable with the casting of Lupin. I didn't like that David Thewlis was cast, and I really didn't like the "look" they went with for him. But it works. The bits they had about him actually looked like it would be really good.

The actual movie they showed tonight included some deleted scenes, including Harry and Hagrid's conversation about dragons ("Hagrid, they aren't talking about real dragons, are they?" "Well, they aren't talking about penguins."), Harry's "cheek" in Potions (when Snape says "Clearly fame isn't everything," Harry replies with "Clearly Hermione knows. Ask her"), and Seamus's eyebrows (heeheehee... funny little bit. I understand why they took it out, but it was cute, and a nice moment for Devon Murray)... oh, and a scene between the first time Harry looks in the Mirror of Erised with Ron, and he returns the next night.

Quite good, I taped it, hope some of you got to see it.

Thanks for the recap. I didn't even know it would be on, I haven't watched tv in weeks. Although today, I turned the tv on while I was getting ready for work. As I was looking in my closet, I heard a familiar voice from the tv say "Turn to page 394", I turned around and there was Snape!!! I was watching the new trailer!!! I know, I know, I should have watched it online already. But it never looks as good as it does on tv anyway. Besides, the fact that the trailer's on tv means that the movie's coming soon!!! Yes, I've known the release date but seeing it on tv is one of those major milestones that let's me know that the day I've been waiting for, since last year, is finally coming!!! I can't wait!!!

OMG I was very impressed with the special effects! I hope the movie is as good as the previews make me think its going to be! Malfoy is still looking deliciously evil :evil grin:

*drool* :P

One part of the preview I thought was really funny was the part when Hermione's walking towards Draco like in the trailer ("you foul, loathsome, evil little cockroach!" something like that), but instead of punching him, she sticks her wand at him. Then she turns away, comes back and then she punches him!
I also liked the part when Rickman, in his Snape costume, had this huge smile on. It was the freakiest thing, seeing "Snape" laugh like that!

All in all, it looks like a very promising movie. Can't wait for June!!!

sad to say, i didn't bother watching the anything but the 10-min video simply for the fact that the first movie is horrible in my terms. second one was a bunch better in comparison, as it kept along the book more, where the first one strayed off quite a bit. so, yeah, that's my 2 cents.

I felt like the second one was missing one major part that should have been in it: the Deathday Party. I have a hard time understanding why they just completely cut that part out...

anyway, the ten-minute thingy was the main cool part about it.

I saw the special and liked that the deleted scenes were fit back into the movie.
On the DVD you have to view them seperatly and I personally prefer the extended version better.

There were scenes that were not on the DVD under deleted scenes andf that was pretty cool. I lent my DVD to my brother so I can't check it just now but I am sure that the quidditch scene was extended a bit.

I feel a little better about what I considered questionable casting of the POA film after viewing the preview and behind the scenes footage. I still think that Viggo Mortengenson (?sp) from LOTR would have made a better Sirius but that's just a matter of opinion.

Now I have it all taped for Nobby but I am now wondering if he will be able to view the tape. My husband told me that England uses a different kind of equipment than we do here in the States so unless he has a certian kind of VCR that is not common in England he probably will not be able to view it

yeah, that was definately one of the things that i missed in the second one. but still, the plat was shifted around so much in the first one because of the fact that many things happened because of something other than in the book. anyway, i hope they gradually get better.

Ah... Athena, your first post just made me laugh so much! I mean about Tom Felton and Draco Malfoy, it was just so true to the point that I couldn't help giggling.

I'm so mad that I miss all these things just because i live in australia! Plus I can't view that link Athena posted because I don't use AOL.

I watched the trailer on the computer, would rather watch most things on the computer now that i have broadband because watching the TV makes me seasick, it jumps up and down all the time. The only things i even attempt to watch are the simpsons & big brother.

There haven't been any specials on HP over here yet. It's funny when you guys talk about these programs on ABC, because over here ABC is mainly for news and documentarys and serious programs, except for the bill but there's really nothing they can do about it because they've been showing it for so long that now that it's become hollywood-ised they can't really reject it for that.

I'm rambling aren't I? Sorry bout that! just jealous of you guys!

That's an interesting idea . . . I like it. I love Viggo Mortensen, and I could so see him as Sirius.

I think it was a wise casting move to not have actors from LOTR in the Harry Potter movies... With them being of the same genre, it would completely stereotype the actors, and, assuming Viggo M. agreed to play Sirius through til the end, that would be six movies in a row of the same genre. Little growth for Viggo, and people would get tired of seeing him in the same type of movies.

Sorry bout that link, it didn't occur to me that people who don't have aol wouldn't be able to see it at all... my bad. :-? Surely, somewhere on the 'net, you could find that preview, though... *shrug*

I completely agree that Viggo would have made a great Sirius but point #1, he's not British. He's Danish American. They'd have never cast him anyway.

I do haowever think that Ian McKellen(sp), aka Gandalf or Magneto, would have been the best Dumbledore. And Ian is distinguished enough as an actor that he'd never have been type cast.
