Voldemort's Demise

Postby peterbb » Thursday 20 May 2004 9:59:48pm

What are your theories on how Voldemort is defeated? Here are my ideas:

Idea #1: The simplest, Voldy simply underestimates Harry, like the end of GoF when Voldy give Harry his wand back.

#2: Harry uses love somehow.

#3: The DA gets incredibly strong, and with the help of the Order of the Pheonix, actually overpowers Voldemort.

#4: Harry uses some powerful new invention of the Weasly twins.

#5: Hermione comes across something in a book that Voldemort isn't expecting.

#6: My friend Chris's theory: Voldemort actually kills Harry, but that destroys himself at the same time because of the strong connection between them. Maybe Harry's part in the restoretive(sp?) potion will help.

#7:My favorite theory: Wormtail helps Harry somehow because of the "life-debt" (to borrow some starwars termenoligy(sp?)) Perhaps by sharing some secret weakness of Voldy's, or by actually turning on Voldy. Maybe Wormtail's part in the restoritive(sp agan?) potion will have something to do with it.

Enough rambling. Your thoughts please!

I really think that he and Harry will die, only becuase i really don't think JK Rowling would end the series on such a perdictable thought, you know good over evil, Harry over Voldemort....that sort of thing.

just my opinion......

Welcome to BaO peterbb :welcome:
some nice ideas you have got there. be sure that one of them is going to be the answer. i personally back the Star-Wars theory

Incidently, there have been hundreds of threads on this topic. the latest ones have been

http://broomsticksandowls.com/forum/vie ... php?t=3284
http://broomsticksandowls.com/forum/vie ... php?t=3225

before starting new threads please take care they there arent existing threads on the same topic. i know it is a bit of a hassle but everyone should try to keep the forum concise.

Dont worry, even i was guilty of repeating threads when i was new :D just keep it in mind for the future

Now that the thread is there, here are my remarks:
peterbb wrote:Idea #1: The simplest, Voldy simply underestimates Harry, like the end of GoF when Voldy give Harry his wand back.

LV is an extremely bright guy. He won't repeat that mistake: Too simple.
peterbb wrote:#2: Harry uses love somehow.

IMHO this is almost for sure. But you don't USE love, love protects you.
peterbb wrote:#3: The DA gets incredibly strong, and with the help of the Order of the Pheonix, actually overpowers Voldemort.

Too macho-like. This would be the Hollywood action hero story, but thanks to JKR, it is not.
peterbb wrote:#4: Harry uses some powerful new invention of the Weasly twins.

Funny idea, but too simple to end a 7-book cycle. They can and will help, but I doubt that this will decide the main story.
peterbb wrote:#5: Hermione comes across something in a book that Voldemort isn't expecting.

Again, this may decide a battle, but not the war.
peterbb wrote:#6: My friend Chris's theory: Voldemort actually kills Harry, but that destroys himself at the same time because of the strong connection between them. Maybe Harry's part in the restoretive(sp?) potion will help.

That's an original idea, but I hope Harry will get out of this alive.
peterbb wrote:#7:My favorite theory: Wormtail helps Harry somehow because of the "life-debt" (to borrow some starwars termenoligy(sp?)) Togehter with #2 this is my favorite, too.

In another thread I proposed the additional idea, that in the coming war, the dementors, giants and centaurs will play their roles. My guess is, that the poor slave-like humble elves will make the difference, if they chose to take side in the conflict. The Harry-LV conflict might reflect this on an inidividual scale, like the final showdown in Star Wars.

I think all are possible, except i dont like the idea of a couple. I dont like 4 or 7. Number seven is realistic, but somehow i like the idea of Harry killing him on all his own. Number four is really cool, and i actually really like it, but thats pretty much exactly what happened in the Matrix Revolutions, and i hated the ending. I hope its either #1 or 2.

Ok I just got off work so it's gonna be hard for me to organize my thoughts into underestandable sentences, here goes...

In GoF, Voldemort says he has the same protection that Lily gave Harry, I think thats bull, because Lily died for Harry not Voldemort. I think that charm is non-transferrable  . But if Voldemort does have part of Lily's potection she gave Harry, Voldemort may have hung himself because that charm was like straight love, the stuff Voldemort can't stand.

Here's my other theory: (I've posted it before in some other thread a long time ago) In CoS, Dumbledore says something like, "I will never be gone as long as there are some that are loyal to me. " So I think it's the same for Voldemort. If all his supporters have either been killed or repented, Voldemort will be easy to conquer. After all, for 11 years ,after Harry got him, Voldemort was alone and friendless, and he wasn't much of a threat.

wow...

you know, when Harry tells Dumbledore that Voldy thinks he has the protection that Harry has now, Dumbledore has a satisfied look in his eye, and I always thought that was weird. But that would explain it well... Dumbledore would know it's not transferable, so it's beneficial to them for Voldemort to think he has this protection when he really doesn't... hmmm...

you're good right out of work!

hey thanks i had completely forgotten that part. DD has something like a triumphant look in his eyes but the next moment he again looks tired. maybe that is what JKR is going to use somehow in connection with love, some miscalculation of Voldy in taking Harry's blood.

I always assumed that look to be due to the fact that voldemort had to settle for a mortal life before going after immortality. Meaning that he could now be killed.

might be... i'm at my in-laws, I don't have the book with me, so I can't see at exactly which point Dumbledore has that look... I just remember not being able to figure out why he did that at that time...

I don't have the exact quote because I'm too lazy to go get the book, but I'm 99% sure that DD has that "triumphant look" right after Harry tells DD that Voldemort touched his face.

Maybe simply because he was right. And it was a short expression in his face, because he correctly predicted a not-so-nice theory.

Athena Here is the exact excerpt from GoF:

When Harry told of Wormtail piercing his arm with the dagger, however, Sirius let out a vehement exclamation and Dumbledore stood up so quickly that Harry started. Dumbledore walked around the desk and told Harry to stretch out his arm. Harry showed them both the place where his robes were torn and the cut beneath them.
"He said my blood would make him stronger than if he'd used someone eles's," Harry told Dumbledore. "He said the protection my ... my mother left in me ... he'd have it too. And he was right ... he could touch me without hurting himself, he touched my face."
For a fleeting instant, Harry thought he saw a gleam of something like triumph in Dumbledore's eyes. But the next second, Harry was sure he had imagined it, for when Dumbledore had returned to his seat behind the desk, he looked as old and weary as Harry had ever seen him.

Thanks for the quote Alice, it's a big help.
I really do believe that the look that the triumphant look that dumbledore gives is in realtion to the fact that Voldemort can now be killed. He has had to settle for a mortal life.
he looked as old and weary as Harry had never seen him

Dumbldore now knows that he has to tell harry the truth and now knows the harsh reality of what is to come.
This is one of my theories, dumbledore knows that the protection that lily made in sacrificing herself for harry can no longer protect him from voldemort because he has that blood in him. Harry needs to build the love himself, the way he did when sirius died in OoTP, when voldemort had inhabited his body. That feeling of love caused him to leave harrys body. Lets face it, harry rarely has feelings of love, it's mostly been of anger and hate, he hates the dursleys, he hates voldemort, he's only happy when he is at hogwarts or with ron, hermione, or hagrid. The moment in OoTP when voldemort leaves harrys body is the first expression of love, that JK has really expressed to the readers, about harrys feelings. I think Harrys love will be voldemorts fall, not his mothers love or anything like that, harrys love for the people around him.
This is my interpretation of that anyway. I could be wrong.
