I wanted to give blood, I wanted to give blood twice actually....but both times i was frickin' anemic (not enough iron in my blood) And they always tell me "Just eat more steak and red meat"
Only one tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny problem...
I'M A VEGETARIAN.....
Why do they mock me so?!?!?!

Anyway, Im eating lots of green veggies and getting my iron up so I can attempt to give again (and probably fail again...)

I'm FINALLY of age, and I do want to give blood. I don't know when, though, but I really do want to give blood.

Are you actually anemic or is your iron count just not up to their standard?? Last time I went to give blood they wouldn't let me because my iron count was one point (ONE POINT . . . venting. . .) too low by their standard but it was one point higher than the normal iron count for women!
I was just a little upset :x If it's above normal isn't that good enough!! :o

Well, you know: what's enough IS enough...
I don't really know if having more iron than you should is a bad thing, but let's say (and this probably isn't true) that a lot of iron causes your blood to go rusty... Now, that wouldn't be a good thing, cause instead of transporting the Oxygen, blodd was actually using it...
(Again, I repeat, this is probably wrong, but I just wanted to show you that there is a minimum and a maximum for most things in life)

actually, the last time i went to give blood I was one below the required amount too....*curses sky* But the time before that I was pretty badly anemic...
I think your blood can be to alkaline...meaning too much metal, maybe that's connected?! Probably.....somehow

for people with a genetic disorder called hemochromatosis, getting too much is a potential health risk. Hemochromatosis is a disorder that interferes with iron absorption, resulting in more iron being absorbed than the body needs.

Too much iron is a risk to your health. While hemochromatosis is managed medically, controlling iron in the diet is another way to limit intake

Excess iron in the body can harm the endothelium, or inner lining of blood vessels, boosting a person's odds of developing hardening of the arteries and heart attack

som ethigns on the net about it

says in one place, that if smokers lower their iron levels, then the lining of their blood vessels returns to normal. hrrmm
