Harry's Dream in Philosophers Stone

Postby hagrid_fang » Monday 21 June 2004 9:29:22pm

I know that JK puts alot of hints and clues in some of her chapters, i've been bored of my books and started reading harry potter again, and i noticed a dream that harry had in chapter seven - the sorting hat. It's not mentioned again in the book or the series but i find the content of the dream quite interesting.

Perhaps Harry had eaten a bit too much, because he had a very strange dream. He was wearing Professor Quirrell's turban, which kept talking to him, telling him he just transfer to slytherin at once, because it was his destiny. harry told the turban he didn't want to be in Slytherin; it got heavier and heavier; he ttried to pull it off but it tightened painfully - and there was Malfoy, laughing at him as he struggled with it - then Malfoy turned into the hooknosed teacher, Snape, whose laugh became high and cold - there was a burst of green light and Harry woke, sweating and shaking. He rolled over and fell asleep again, and when he woke the next day, he didn't remember the dream at all.

Just with how the stories have continued, i mean i could be picking at straws here, it could be of no relevance at all.
What do other people make of this? it's something i thought of, how could it go??

The deep meaning here........ Harry ate far too much
This could have been his first dream where he actually plays the part of Voldemort(Quirrels turban). Can't really see why Malfoy turned into Snape :???:

Yeah, I don't really think it's too much, except for maybe the green light thing. Green seems to be a growing theme, well, maybe growing anyway. So far we've seen the green eyes thing w/ harry and his mom, nad here the green saves hijm from the nightmare he was having. maybe it's forshadowing some type of saving quality the green has.

Somewhere in the depths of the Theories board, this has been discussed (I don't remember the name, but either Nobby or Joto put it up, I think).

I don't put a whole lot of stock in that particular dream, except for a few very small hints/details.

It's our first hint to wonder what's going on with that turban.
It gets us looking the other way, though, by aligning Malfoy/Snape/Slytherin.
The green light symbolizes the night his parents died, and since he's having a dream that ultimately we know has to do with the end of the book (he thinks Snape is helping Voldemort, but it's really Quirrell), it's only fitting that the flash of green light, the only thing he remembers from his last encounter with Voldemort, would play a part in the dream.

Yeah, it was me... :eekie:
Actually, I splitted it into two posts cause I was seeing two different clues in the dream... so, just out of curiosity, the links are Harry's dream (part I) and
Harry's dream (part II).
