First off, welcome, Writer! :welcome:  you made 20 posts in about 24 hours... wow.

Yeah, the bubble gum thing was a shocker for me, too (wonder if Fizzing Whizbees mean anything ) but I had been questioning St. Mungo's for a long time, too. I mean, how can they mend broken bones in a minute, GROW BACK bones in a night, reverse memory charms, but still have insane people from one bad night with a Cruciatus Curse?

Did y'all notice Neville pocketed the gum wrapper? I think this is where we're going to figure out the connection. My guess is, Neville has saved a few of those wrappers, because his mother gave them to him, and somehow someone will see those and get the idea... dunno, though.

I nearly cried at that part of the book. I like what Harry is thinking somewhere when he decides that Neville has had it worse than him, knowing that his parents are alive, but never getting to be parented by them.

Celestina Warbeck is a name I skimmed over the first many times I read the book (I have twelve books and cycle through them over and over again, so I have lost track of how many times I've read the Harry Potter books), but when reading The Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Secrets of Harry Potter, they brought it up in there.

OMG! Yet more evidence! After Neville is handed the wrapper his grandmother says:
"Neville, put that wrapper in the bin, she must have given you enough of them to paper your bedroom by now."
 they've been giving him the same message all along! They're trying to tell him!
:-( so sad. I hope he figures it out.

Cough!! Cough!! Off topic!!! Cough!!

going back to what writer said: I find very strange that nevile`s parents are sane enough to give him the wrapper-clues, but are stilll considered insane and seem incable of talking.

Yeah, I agree with you... I don't really think Alice is purposely giving Neville clues... I think it's what it appears to be, that she kind of remembers him as her son, or maybe just as a visitor, and the insane lady is giving him gum wrappers as gifts... The wrappers will turn out to be a clue, but she's not aware of it...

Maybe they're not actually crazy? Maybe they're under some strange curse or being controlled somehow (imperious, hospital drugs)?
*shiver* I'm getting into this now

I don't think it would be hospital drugs, as they seem to rarely need medicine in the wizarding world...

Know what I think? I think the Longbottoms (Neville included), had some very very strong memory charm put on them, maybe being replenished up at the hospital... I think it was in reference to Bertha Jorkins's memory charms in Book 4, we learn that they can mess you up somethin awful... Gilderoy Lockheart accidentally performed one on himself, and he's still loony three years later...

I think when Neville was a very small child, he witnessed what happened to Frank and Alice Longbottom. The people who tortured them put a memory charm on all three of the Longbottoms. Frank and Alice, already driven temporarily crazy with the Cruciatus Curse, are completely messed up with the memory charm on it. The powerful memory charm on Neville forever effected his memory (how often are we reminded of Neville's horrible memory?)

I kinda messed that up, but this does make a bit of a difference in the arguement I just made:

I think the memory charm forever affected Neville's short-term memory.

Insanity is relative. That is the whole point of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey, which is about being in a mental institution. I think Alice and Frank are caught in their own fog and are somewhat aware of what has happened in their own way.

Wow, that bubble gum connection is amazing, time to re-read the series to look for more clues......Anyway, yes I think St. Mungos is very shady, I lot of vaild points have been made about how the accept Malfoy's donations, humm...I do believe he has them in his pocket, along with the ministry. Maybe they healers are bad and are keeping Frank and Alice insane, sad though. When she gave Neville that gum wrapper, I will admit it did affect me oddly. But moving the letters around and getting something like that...*shivering*

humm, Athena you have made some very valid points, good Snooping!!

Yeah, that makes sense. I just don't think they're purposely giving Neville clues, hoping he'll put two and two together and realize what's going on.

Awww, thanks! :-)

I got a lot of it from other sources, but it all starts making sense when you go back and look for it...
